Guest Project of Art-O-Rama 2011:

Curatorial delegation of L’appartement22, Rabat, a curatorial project conceived by Cécile Bourne-Farrell, curator

Unexpectedly from Everyone, a tribute to Goddy Leye, with Joel Andrianomearisoa, Mohssin Harraki, Katia Kameli, Perrine Lacroix, Jesús Palomino, Otobong Nkanga and Younès Rahmoun

As part of ART-O-RAMA, L’appartement22 wishes to pay tribute to Goddy Leye - Cameroonian artist, who died at the age of 46 last February - in order to reproduce what this artist initiated in Africa and the world. ART-O-RAMA will thus welcome the L’appartement22 radio system, which will be a real catalyst for proposals around the work of Goddy Leye.

Whether live, in podcast or web radio, Radio22 will reproduce certain actions carried out by the artist, giving the floor to different people who have known him or not. The idea is to testify who he was but also what he had set up since 2003 in his Bonendale district in Douala, Cameroon with the "ArtBakery", an experimentation centre favouring connections between plastic surgeons and cultural operators from all over the world.

By relying on Goddy Leye's work and that of other artists, L'appartement22 wishes to account for the way in which certain cultural actors also transmit their relationship to art through small structures and specific actions in an innovative way. This tribute to Goddy Leye intends to convey the spirit in which he worked, so that what Edouard Glissant calls "The living initiation of the movement, and not the identical, or identity" can emerge. The harmony of similar is neutral and fruitful, but the meeting of differences, and that which is not harmony of opposites, is accomplished in and by a mutual going beyond the basis of the "unexpected of the All-World” (extract from'"A new region of the world", Esthétique 1, 2006, p. 63, ed.Gallimard).

The artists of “The Unexpected World, a tribute to Goddy Leye”: Joël Andrianomearisoa (born in 77, Madagascar, lives in Paris, www.joelandrianomearisoa.com), visited Goddy Leye at the ArtBakery and recently showed his work in Paris. Mohssin Harraki (born in 81 in Morocco, currently lives in Saint-Ouen, www.mohssinharraki.com), met Goddy Leye in Arco in 2009. He initiated an artist residency project in Morocco. Katia Kameli (born in 73 in France, lives in Paris, http://katiakameli.com), with the Trans-Maghreb project she offered artists to bounce back on what is happening in Algeria. Perrine Lacroix (born in 67, in France, lives in Lyon, www.perrinelacroix.com) artist, she also directs the associative structure BF15 in Lyon which aims to present emerging artists. Goddy Leye (born in 63, in Cameroon, deceased 2011, www.goddyleye.lecktronix.net) is the initiator of ArtBakery in Douala, he participated in the exhibition “This is Now 1 & 2” in Johannesburg in 2008 and in Rabat in 2009. Otobong Nkanga (born in 1974, in Nigeria, lives in Antwerp, www.otobongnkanga.com) works regularly with young artists in a multidisciplinary way, has exhibited at AIM, Biennale de Marrakech and has been with Goddy Leye like Jesús Palomino at the same time in the Riksakadémie in Amsterdam. Jesús Palomino (b.69, Spain, lives in Seville, www.jesuspalomino.com) produced the feature for "Radio-Bessengué city" with Goddy Leye and other artists. Younès Rhamoun (born in 75 in Morocco, lives in Tétouan, www.younesrahmoun.com) visual artist and teacher at the School of Fine Arts in Tetouan, was also at the ArtBakery in November 2010.
