Jem Perucchini, painter of all potentials has won the 2023 Jean-François Prat 2023 and I had to present his work to the jury, presided by Manuel Borja Villel.
The young work of the artist Jem Perucchini invites us to apprehend his painting in a certain filiation of the Sienese painting from which he draws his inspiration.Everything is also a mystery in order to let optical strategies and infinite combinations of games of looks and associations between people operate, in a perfect dialectic between content and form.
Jem Perucchini's work is strongly influenced by his surroundings, whether in architecture or Renaissance painting, to which he applies the same principles of linear perspective. For his first solo exhibition at Corvi Mora Gallery, he painted the walls black to create an immersive atmosphere that tends to connect the characters to each other. His choreographies borrow a posed gesture whose androgenic bodies are long, the heads round and similar to look at each other from an angle, the hands are thin, everything is controlled, even frozen. These characters seem out of time, levitating between reality and fiction, everything is mathematically constructed, we are in a space of illusion but unlike Uccelo, here there is no narrative.

Le jeune travail de l’artiste Jem Perucchini nous invite à appréhender sa peinture dans une certaine filiation de la peinture siennoise dont il s’inspire. Tout y est aussi mystère pour laisser opérer stratégies optiques et combinations infinies de jeux de regards et d’associations entre les personnes, dans une dialectique parfaite entre le fond et la forme.
Jem Perucchini a un travail fortement influencé par ce qui l’entoure que ce soit dans l’architecture ou la peinture de la Renaissance dont il applique ces mêmes principes de perspective linéaire. À l’occasion de sa première exposition personnelle à la galerie Corvi Mora, il a peint les murs en noir pour créer une atmosphère immersive qui tend à mettre en connexion les personnages entre eux. Ses chorégraphies empruntent une gestuelle posée dont les corps androgènes longilignes, les têtes rondes et semblables se regarder de biais, les mains sont fines, tout est contrôlé, voire figé. Ces personnages paraissent hors du temps, en lévitation entre réalité et fiction, tout est mathématiquement construit, on est dans un espace d’illusion mais contrairement à Uccelo, ici, il n’y a pas de narration.
